Carlos graduated from the University of Valladolid in Spain in 1999, including one year of studying as an Erasmus student at University College of Galway in the Republic of Ireland. During this time, he participated as a volunteer in several archaeological projects in different countries including France, Brazil, Spain and Portugal.

Carlos started working in commercial archaeology while completing his MA in Latin American Archaeology and Anthropology at the Complutense University of Madrid (2004). He experienced the boom in commercial archaeology in Spain during the period of the building rush (2000-2008) and excavated a number of important sites in different historical cities and regions of Spain (Toledo, Madrid, Valencia, Málaga, Granada, the Basque Country, Galicia). During this period he was also in charge of running fieldwalk surveys, watching briefs, evaluations and excavation projects, as well as preparing Desk-Based Assessments. He has worked in commercial archaeology in other European countries such as Portugal (2011-2012), on the River Sabor dam construction project, and since 2014 in three different companies in the UK. Carlos joined AOC in September 2020, after a short period of working for the Museum of Natural History in Oxford.

Carlos has carried out ethnoarchaeogical fieldwork among indigenous communities in Brazil to research their lithic material culture and has published some of the results of his research in academic journals in Spain and the US.
