Natalie Hamilton BSc MSc
Site Assistant,
Geoarchaeology
Natalie graduated with a high distinction from the MSc Quaternary Science course at Royal Holloway, University of London, in 2021 and joined AOC in 2022. Her academic work provided a nuanced understanding of palaeolandscapes across both marine and terrestrial environments, periods of human occupation across Britain, and in particular, the influence of past environments on human occupations.
In support of this, Natalie has developed a unique and vast skillset in supporting field and laboratory techniques in respect of using sedimentological and stratigraphic evidence for reconstructing palaeoenvironments and putting archaeological finds into an environmental context. Natalie’s academic skill set is well demonstrated in her MSc thesis, ‘Investigating the sedimentary and geochemical impact of abrupt Holocene events on a lowland lake system: a study of the annually laminated sediments of Diss Mere’.
At AOC Natalie has built on her understanding of British archaeology with a placement in our field team excavating on a number of prehistoric to historic, and rural to urban, sites. Within the geoarchaeology team she has expanded on her laboratory experience in soil micromorphology, palaeobotany and faunal analysis by undertaking desk-based deposit models and geoarchaeological monitoring work, as well as assisting the team on larger geoarchaeological projects.
