Huw is an Associate Director and is the Post-excavation Manager for the London and Milton Keynes offices responsible for the overall preparation and delivery of the post-excavation business plan. Huw is responsible for preparing detailed quotations for post-excavation assessment, analysis and publication phases of AOC projects. He manages the work of the post-excavation teams in Milton Keynes and London and coordinates liaison with in house and external specialists. Huw contributes to AOC’s public archaeology strategy and prepares press releases, social media posts and oversees the production of videos about AOC’s post-excavation projects.
Huw has over 38 years professional archaeological experience and has worked all over the UK as well as in Italy and Turkey. Huw is a professional archaeologist with 35 years archaeological experience in the UK, Italy and Turkey. He first started in the profession as a site assistant on excavations in Hereford in May 1986. Huw has been employed in archaeological Team Leading, Project Management and lead consultant roles for 20 years and has excellent knowledge of developer-funded archaeology in the UK from both the contracting, curatorial and consultancy perspectives.
Huw is used to working with a high degree of autonomy in constant collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team. He has a broad portfolio of skills including HEA/EIA work, building recording, evaluation, excavation and post-excavation work. He has highly developed negotiation skills and is good at team building, collaborative working and delegation of responsibilities. Huw has a friendly, outgoing approach and enjoys meeting clients and helping them establish what their needs and aspirations are.
Huw has a particular interest and specialisms in urban medieval archaeology, landscape archaeology, industrial archaeology and standing building recording.
